March 6, Harvard pen.
March 5
Snow starting to go away.
March 4, grave is clear of, but surrounded by snow.
March 3, snow must have melted off the grave stone, then a dusting recovered it. A few new items, a rock, some coins, and 3 nip bottles in the snow on the large grave stone.
March 2, 2022. Kerouac’s friend, Sammy Sampas (Sebastian G. Sampatacacus), died on this date in 1944. He was killed by wounds received during the Battle of Anzio, where he served as an army medic.
Sammy and Jack had a very close friendship, and Jack eventually married Sammy’s sister Stella.
A March 1943 letter from “Jack Kerouac: Selected Letters 1940-1956” –
Sebastian!
You magnificent bastard! I was just thinking about you, and all of a sudden, I feel
very Sebastianish,
very Bohemian!
very Baroque!
very GAY! (TURN!)
I was thinking, in a flash of glory, about all the things we’ve done!!!–and all the others we’re going to do!
AFTER THE WAR, WE MUST GO TO FRANCE AND SEE THAT THE REVOLUTION GOES WELL! AND GERMANY TOO! AND ITALY TOO! AND RUSSIA!
For 1. Vodka
2. Love
3. Glory.

March 1, 2022 – still covered in snow.
Today I was interviewed by Jennifer Platt-Ure from Fox News Boston. There will be a piece about this project on Fox on March 11.
Photo by Jennifer Platt-Ure, from earlier in February.
February 28, snow. Snow. Always snow.
The note disap”pear”ed.
February 27 – “Leave and orange + Jack will…” The bottom of the note said “a pear”. The paper was frozen to the stone, so I couldn’t get it off to photograph the whole thing.
February 26, and still snow…
February 25 – a lot of snow. Cemetery streets were not plowed, so here is a picture of the gate.
